In Game Questions

When does the game take place?: The Vortex takes place during the Eighth Doctor's era, and while the game is intended to go AU, and things take place after the events of the Big Finish Audio Play, Storm Warning.

The over arcing plot of the game will focus on the damage that was done to the 'Web of Time, as a result of The Doctor saving someone who was meant to die during the tragedy of the ill fated R101.

What will I expect?: The Vortex is mainly an action-adventure AU game set in the Doctor Who Universe. The setting of the audio plays is a little darker than that of the television series, and some of them along with the television show did play with plenty of horror concepts. There will be horror type plots that may deal with a variety of situations that will test your character psychologically.

There's a reason it has a reputation of having viewers 'hiding behind the couch'!

This is one of the joys of Doctor Who is that it finds a nice balance between the action, adventure, comedy, drama, friendship, horror, love, and everything else that goes in between!

The big thing to expect is to see plenty of time travel, from modern Earth, dinosaurs, and the very distant future!

Can I Godmode the TARDIS: Yes! People are welcomed to take her pretty much anywhere or anywhen they wish for their threads. Please keep in mind other people might want to play with your setting location, and that is just fine and in fact it is encouraged.

What about the Time War?: We won't see the actual Time War. But there are plenty of small skirmishes that did happen between the Daleks and Time Lords that do happen through out the classic period of Doctor Who. While we are not going to play out the series events, we will be able to make up some of our own that will play a part in the events leading up to the war.

What about other universes: Your character is limited to just this one, but there are other known universes within The Doctor Who Universe. The Divergence, E-Space, and other various locations might come up in an event or two.

Game Time: TBD

Do I have to know about Doctor Who to play here?: No. There are some links that can help give you a basic rundown of the universe at large.

Monsters and locations are not limited to just the Doctor Who universe! People are encouraged to make their own creations, and we are not restricted to simply canon based creatures and locations. It is a great big universe out there just waiting to be given life. If you want to borrow a concept from another canon, Doctor Who is fairly forgiving of a universe when it comes to variety.

Is there a Network?: Yes, there is a network, The Doctor is capable of turning cell phones into super phones that allow for people to talk, text, send videos, and your standard features that will come with your run of the mill network. This is not an excuse to avoid face-to-face contact with your fellow players, and there will be times when the network is not working.

My Character doesn't speak English: Don't worry the TARDIS has a telepathic circuit that is able to translate the majority of known languages in the universe. If you are in Ancient Greece, the language will be translated into the native spoken language of your character, and sent back out to the natives as Ancient Greece.

This for the most part does work, but there have been times when the TARDIS has been incapacitated enough for the circuit to become nonoperational. There will be times when this will happen, and your characters will need to find other methods to communicate with one another.

What can my character do?: A life living on the TARDIS is one filled with adventure and danger, and while The Doctor prefers to deal with things peacefully, that isn't how it always happens. There will be chances to explore technology old and new, bodies to mend with the latest technologies, solve a murder mystery, and save a planet or three from an unknown threat.

There is no little or too much that can be done with the setting, and it will allow for different characters to allow themselves to shine in various settings and situations. And most importantly for characters to work together to find a way to solve a problem through teamwork.

How did my character arrive?: Your character was given a choice to help The Doctor by the Time Lords, or they were brought here by force. They will only have the clothes and any objects on them when they arrive. If you want to bring your pet or an important weapon with you, make sure you will have it on your person.

If you have a specific vehicle (car) or something like a wheelchair that is attached to the character please let me know.

What if my character died?: Your character can be brought into this universe at the moment of their death. They will be alive and well, but we will leave optional scars up to the individual players. As for characters in the Doctor Who Universe, the game universe is its own little thing, this is to help allow for things to flow a bit easier for when dead characters are brought into the game.
